Chris is an engineer with a passion for innovation. In his early career he used this passion to design cutting edge helmet mounted displays and head-up displays for military pilots, to work on the development of highly efficient electric vehicle digital drivetrains, and to manage the design and manufacture of some extraordinary consumer electronic products. Since joining Smart Fibres in 2002, Chris has used this passion to drive the pioneering development of the Company’s optical fibre sensing technology, to unlock new applications for this technology, and to place Smart Fibres as a world leading supplier of sensing solutions for some unique monitoring and control applications.
Crispin is a first class materials engineer. His postgraduate research and employment has focused on the development of optical fibre sensor technologies to industrial applications. Crispin joined Smart Fibres in 2003 where, as CTO since 2012, he has set the direction of in-house technical developments, ensured continued technology advancement, and mentored a growing team of scientists and engineers. Crispin’s encyclopaedic technical knowledge and exceptional problem solving ability makes him an invaluable asset to the Company.
Chris is a chartered engineer with more than 20 years’ experience of board level management in innovative product design and development Companies. Having spent 5 years as an independent interim manager, Chris has an ability to quickly identify improvement needs within an organisation and implement change to address them. Chris joined Smart Fibres at the end of 2013 to lead and grow the engineering teams, apply best practice to the engineering, manufacture and delivery processes, and bring fresh strategic insight to the senior management team.
Gerry qualified as a mechanical and production engineer and has held various technical, engineering, sales, marketing and management roles within the Oil & Gas industry. At PES in the 90s, Gerry was part of the team that developed the original SmartWell completion concept that much of the industry relies on today. Having held key roles in Baker, Well Dynamics, Halliburton and Weatherford, Gerry has a great knowledge of the upstream E&P market that he is using to increase the awareness and adoption of Smart Fibres’ unique downhole monitoring solutions.
Matt is a Chartered Certified Accountants with 15 years’ experience. He started his career working in world class organisations such as McLaren F1 Racing and IBM. In 2011 Matt joined oil & gas technology Company Pulse Structural Monitoring. As Global Finance manager he was responsible for managing and overseeing the finance function in the UK, US and Brazil. Matt joined Smart Fibres in 2016 to help evolve the finance function and assist the team to achieve continued growth, development and success.

Mike is currently a non-executive board member of several Oil related businesses, and is Chairman-elect of Robert Gordon University. During his 35 year career Mike has held various technical and commercial positions including CEO of Gas2 Ltd, Commercial Director of Petroleum Engineering Services, Head of Oil and Gas at Scottish Enterprise and CEO of WellDynamics, a global Halliburton Company. Mike was one of the founding Directors of Venture Production which was listed on the LSE and subsequently acquired by Centrica plc. Mike holds a degree in Geology & Geography from Keele University, an MSc in Engineering Geology from Leeds University and a Diploma in Management Studies from RGU.
Norbert runs international consulting company LRS (LRS.co.at) based in Vienna, Austria. His company mainly consults SMEs in the High Tech market with huge growth potential. LRS further holds stakes in a number of companies in Austria and Croatia. During his career Norbert has served as director of various listed and private companies in UK, Germany and other European countries. He holds a degree in Business Administration from Vienna University of Economics and BA. He is married and father of three daughters and lives south of Vienna.
Hendrik is master of business administration and chartered tax consultant. He has 6 years experience within the audit and risk advisory area with a big four company (KPMG, Deloitte, E&Y, PwC). Currently Hendrik is working as an investment controller and manager for a group with diverse investments. His wide experiences range from internal audit, process improvements and implementation, financial analysis and modelling as well as corporate restructuring.
