July 2011 SFL announces SmartFlow in collaboration with TNO
Smart Fibres is pleased to announce SmartFlow, a robust fiber optic flowmeter designed for remote flow monitoring in challenging environments. The instrument can measure gas, liquid as well as steam flow rates. The base for the technology is a proven, robust and widely applied flow meter principle (vortex shedding), combined with the sensor that is one of the core strengths of Smart Fibres, the FBG sensor.
The SmartFlow patented technology has been developed by TNO, one of Europe's largest independent companies for developing innovative technology and providing technical consultancy. TNO has a large track record in oil and gas and in the development of instrumentation for demanding environments (such as oil & gas, space and defense). Smart Fibese has obtained the license to produce and sell this fiber optic vortex flow measurement technology for the oil, gas and chemical processing industry. Both parties have extensive experience in innovating with FBG technology, Smart Fibres' SmartScan FBG interrogator ensures great signal to noise ratio and SF's special bonding technology enables robust operation at elevated temperatures.
TNO adds decades of experience in flow measurement to the package.
