Jan 2012 Next generation SmartScan prototypes delivered
As part of the ongoing development of its SmartScan interrogator, Smart Fibres engineers have conceived SmartScan NG, the next generation harware for our dynamic instrumentation.
NG hardware puts a whole interrogator (including tuneable laser source and 4-channel detection electronics) onto a single PCB of Eurocard dimensions. These SmartScan NG single-board interrogators can be connected together to provide increased optical channel capability (up to 16) and a dual-laser capability, providing continuous tuning over an extended 80nm bandwith.
Two prototype SmartScan NG systems were assembled in 19" rack enclosures and delivered to an oil & gas industry client. In the months ahead, SmartScan NG will go through full qualificaton leading to a full product release to provide 80nm tuning and 1 kHz sampling of up to 512 sensors over 16-channels.
Our roadmap for the NG hardware also includes 80nm, 16-channel versions of our SmartScope instrumentation.
