July 2009 Announcing new SmartScan FBG interrogators
Smart Fibres is pleased to introduce SmartScan, an ultra compact and robust interrogator for the dynamic measurement of multiple FBG sensors. SmartScan is the result of technology improvements on our popular Wx platform, a tuneable laser WDM interrogator that was developed under the AHMOS aerospace project and flight tested on a fixed wing military jet.
SmartScan retains the solid state DBR tuneable laser technology proven on Wx to be highly tolerant of harsh thermal and vibration environments. Evolution of the laser drive circuitry has brought about further improvements to the speed and resolution of the platform, and firmware modifications have brought about new features such as selective tuning ranges, and automatic gain control on a per-channel or per-sensor basis.
Smart Fibres development engineers have concentrated on using only commercial off the shelf optical components available to the volume telecoms industry. The result is an extremely low cost instrument that meets the financial challenges of the volume fibreoptic sensing markets.
A number of BETA versions of the commercial grade SmartScan variants will be available at the end of August, with series volume product following soon after. Extreme conditions grade instruments shall follow subject to market pull.
